Frequently Asked Questions About GMAT

Get answers to common questions about the GMAT Focus Edition

A good GMAT Focus Edition score depends on your target schools. For top-10 MBA programs like Harvard and Stanford, aim for 705+ (equivalent to 730+ on old GMAT). For top-25 programs, 645+ is competitive. The GMAT Focus Edition scores range from 205-805, with 655 being approximately the 80th percentile.

Data Insights is a new section in GMAT Focus Edition that tests your ability to analyze data from multiple sources. It includes 5 question types: Data Sufficiency, Multi-Source Reasoning, Table Analysis, Graphics Interpretation, and Two-Part Analysis. You have 45 minutes for 20 questions, and a calculator is allowed for this section.

GMAT Focus Edition is significantly different:
  • Shorter: 2h 15min vs 3h 30min
  • No AWA essay or Sentence Correction
  • No Geometry in Quantitative section
  • New Data Insights section replaces IR
  • New scoring: 205-805 scale
  • Answer Review: You can change answers within each section

Most test-takers need 2-4 months of preparation, studying 10-15 hours per week. If you're starting from scratch or aiming for 700+, plan for 3-6 months. Key factors include your baseline score, target score, and available study time. Our AI-powered practice tests help you focus on weak areas and study more efficiently.

The GMAT is generally considered more challenging for Quantitative Reasoning, especially Data Sufficiency questions which are unique to the GMAT. The GRE has harder vocabulary. The GMAT is preferred for finance and consulting MBA programs, while the GRE is accepted more broadly. Choose based on your strengths and target programs.

GMAT scores are valid for 5 years from your test date. You can take the GMAT up to 5 times within a 12-month period, with a minimum 16-day gap between attempts. Most business schools accept your highest score, though some may look at all scores.
